Oregon offensive line coach Adrian Klemm gives instructions as the No. 25 Ducks face the No. 12 BYU Cougars in a college football game at Autzen stadium in Eugene on Sept. 17, 2022.

The Oregon Ducks will need to fill another spot on their football coaching staff.

Offensive line coach Adrian Klemm is leaving for the same position with the New England Patriots, according to multiple reports.

Klemm, 45, recently completed his first year at UO, prior to which he was the offensive line coach (2021) and assistant offensive line coach (2019-20) for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was due $850,000 this year and has a $212,500 buyout for leaving Oregon before Feb. 28.

Last week, Oregon coach Dan Lanning said he was “not currently anticipating any changes” to the coaching staff and that Klemm was a phenomenal coach. Now Lanning will have to fill a third opening on UO’s on-field staff this offseason. Klemm joins offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham and safeties coach Matt Powledge, who left to become the head coach at Arizona State and defensive coordinator at Baylor, respectively.

Oregon allowed the fewest sacks (five) in the FBS last season and finished tied for 10th in tackles for loss allowed per game under Klemm, who inherited one of the most experienced offensive lines in college football. The Ducks are losing four starters this offseason.

ESPN first reported the hire of Klemm, who was Bill Belichick’s first draft pick in New England in 2000 (No. 45 overall pick in the second round) and played five seasons and won three Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVII and XXXIX) with the Patriots before joining the Green Bay Packers in 2005.
