Medford man arrested Monday after threatening his mother with a gun

A Medford man is in the Jackson County Jail for menacing and unlawful possession of a firearm after allegedly threatening his mother with a gun Monday.

At 5:26 p.m. Monday, officers with the Medford Police Department were dispatched to a domestic dispute in the 1600 block of South Ivy Circle, where a woman had reported her adult son had threatened to harm her, according to a news advisory from the Medford Police Department.

The son, Edward Valdez, 27, said he had a gun and he was going to use it. The woman called the police and left her residence.

When officers arrived on scene, they set up a perimeter, and a member of of the MPD Crisis Negotiation Team talked with Valdez. At 7:04 p.m., Valdez exited the residence and tried to flee the area. Officers found him in the backyard and took him into custody, the advisory said.
