South’s Hunter chosen for WAVOR all-star game

- South Medford senior Donovyn Hunter was a Class 6A first-team all-tournament selection as well as the Southwest Conference player of the year and defensive player of the year this past season.
South Medford senior guard Donovyn Hunter has been selected to compete in the April 2 Oregon vs. Washington all-star basketball event at Liberty High in Hillsboro.
Formerly called the Northwest Shootout, WAVOR pits the top boys and girls basketball players from the neighboring states against one another. The girls game will be played at 1 p.m. and the boys game at 3 p.m.
Hunter averaged 19.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 4.8 steals per game during the regular season to help South Medford clinch its fourth straight conference crown. The Oregon State-bound standout was also named the SWC girls basketball defensive player of the year.
The Panthers went on to finish runner-up at the Class 6A state tournament to Clackamas.
Selected to join Hunter on the Oregon girls team, which will be coached by Bob Wismer and Larry Benson, were Beaverton’s Madison Naro, Zoe Borter and Lainey Spear, Barlow’s Kennedie Shuler, Jesuit’s Sofia Bell and Emma Sixta, Rhyan Mogel of Clackamas, Ella Wedin of La Salle Prep and Olivia Poulivaati of Tualatin.
