Jackson County Library Services has expanded open hours by 30% across the 15-branch system, officials said Monday.

In December, JCLS implemented the first phase of expanded hours at the Medford and Ashland branches. Previously closed on Thursdays (Medford) and Fridays (Ashland), both branches are now open seven days a week, JCLS said in a press release.

The second and final phase of hours expansion will involve all 15 branches in the system, the release said. With the expansion, 11 of the 15 branches will be open an additional day each week.

Thirteen branches will also include evening hours on Thursdays, with most locations closing at 7 p.m.

“These additional open hours mean our region will have increased access to the internet, early literacy materials, pleasure reading and movies, and more opportunities to get assistance from information professionals,” Kelda Vath, JCLS assistant director of support services, said in the release.

“Our communities have been asking for expanded service hours for over three years, and we are excited to be able to offer more access to our library resources,” Library Director Kari May said in the release. “With a more consistent schedule across the system, we hope that you will be able to find a library open when you need one.”

The following are new operating times and days for all JCLS branches, effective Monday:

Applegate library, 18485 N. Applegate Road

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Friday
• Noon to 7 p.m. Thursday
• Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday
• Closed Sunday, Monday and Wednesday

Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.

Due to a planned HVAC replacement, the Ashland library will provide front-door services through Sunday, April 23, at the Siskiyou Boulevard entrance only, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Ashland Library’s new, expanded schedule will be implemented when the library reopens on Monday, April 24.
