PREP BB: Challengers earn 17th straight win

Top-ranked Cascade Christian found just about everything Sutherlin served up to its liking on Saturday, combining for 31 hits as the Challengers swept a Far West League baseball doubleheader to run their winning streak to 17 games.

Cascade Christian cruised to a 10-0 victory in six innings for the opening win, then only needed five innings to dispatch the Bulldogs 15-0 in Game 2 at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
Junior right fielder Ashton Moody enjoyed a stellar day during the sweep, combining for three extra-base hits in going 5-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs with one walk as he reached base every time up to the plate for the Challengers (21-2, 16-0 FWL).
Junior left fielder Noah Letendre wasn’t far off the pace of his teammate, going 4-for-7 with two runs and five RBIs over the twin bill. Senior catcher Triston Wallace went 4-for-7 with two runs and three RBIs, senior second baseman Cole Shields was 4-for-5 with four runs and three RBIs and senior first baseman Liam Benade went 5-for-7 with four runs and two RBIs.

Senior right-handed pitcher Owen Thompson struck out eight with four walks in four no-hit innings during the opener, with Letendre allowing two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.
In Game 2, junior right-hander Cole Stofflet allowed one hit with three strikeouts and one walk over four innings and Moody was able to close out the Challengers’ fourth shutout in the last five games.

SOUTH MEDFORD 5-6, SOUTH EUGENE 1-0: At Eugene, South Medford sophomore Tristan Mallari went 6⅔ innings in the opener and allowed one unearned run on six hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks in the Southwest Conference doubleheader.
The Panthers (16-6, 10-5 SWC) broke open Game 1 with three runs in the fourth behind a two-run single from Cooper Mitchell and an RBI groundout by Tosh Stupenhaus.
Kyle Cope, who went 2-for-3 in the opener, pitched a complete game shutout in Game 2 on 72 pitches. Cope allowed one hit with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Mallari had a two-run single in the first and South doubled its lead with two more runs in the fourth after an RBI single by Mitchell and sacrifice fly by Chance Ryan.
The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the sixth on a pinch-hit double by Jake Mason and another sacrifice fly by Ryan.
Mallari and Stupenhaus each went 2-for-3 in Game 2.
