Southern Oregon citywide yard sales, flea markets arrive for the season

Published 2:15 pm Tuesday, May 9, 2023

The Southern Oregon Flea Market, opened in 2016, will host sales at The Expo (Seven Feathers building) this summer and fall.

Yard sales, rummage sales and swap meets are one of the surest signs that decent weather is here to stay for a spell.

Every year, just as summer vacation looms and flower bulbs erupt from the dirt, yard sale signs and social media rumblings about sale dates and bargain shopping appear like clockwork.

From mid-May through September, cities around the Rogue Valley will host sale dates — usually full weekends. Residents can opt to clean out their clutter or buy someone else’s. Sales kick off this coming weekend in Gold Hill with a citywide sale and a special sale event at the Gold Hill Bark Park, as well as unofficially throughout town.

May 13 (Gold Hill)“Yardin in the Hill” is an annual sale sponsored by the Gold Hill Bark Park and CanDO to raise money for the city dog park, located at the Gold Hill Sports Park, 14747 Highway 234. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the basketball court at the sports park on sale day, and residents are invited to participate in an unofficial citywide sale happening at homes and businesses around town simultaneously. To rent a space at the sports park, or for more information, contact Sam Hefter via email: samhefter@gmail or call 818-497-7756.

Donate sellable items (no clothing, please) by dropping off between 7:30 and 9 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at the sports park. To donate before Saturday, call 503-869-4189. Donations to the dog park can be made online at candogoldhill.org (noted “for bark park”). To send donations via regular mail, send it to CanDO, P.O. Box 1009; Gold Hill, OR 97525. A citywide cleanup will be held the following week, May 20.

Meanwhile, the cities of Central Point, Phoenix and Rogue River will offer a trifecta of bargain shopping opportunities this month.

May 20 (Central Point)One of two sales for the city of Central Point, the spring sale this year will be hosted May 20 by the Central Point Chamber. Only addresses in the 97502 zip code area are eligible, and registration ends at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16.

Addresses will be made public on a City Wide Yard Sale Map that will be posted online at centralpointchamber.org two to three days before the sale.

May 20 (Phoenix)

The Phoenix Citywide Yard Sale always features a slew of residents and businesses. Hosted by Travel Phoenix, the city of Phoenix and the community center, the event will run from sunup to sundown.

According to the Travel Phoenix website, a “taco crawl” is being planned, and households planning to host a sale can sign up online to have their sale listed (or print a sale list prior to the event). See tinyurl.com/mrxph97a

The weekend sale is an unofficial community event, and sale-holders are encouraged to submit their sale address online and post signs prior to the event. The sale is typically well attended and includes local residents, church parking lot sales and multi-family sales.
