Medford police shoot man after burglary call

Medford police officers opened fire on a man on Angelcrest Drive Saturday evening after responding to a reported burglary, the department said in a release.
The shooting took place in the 1500 block of Angelcrest shortly after 6:45 p.m.
“The caller reported that an unknown male was armed with a firearm and was entering and removing property from a home that was unoccupied,” the release said.
The department said the first of several officers arrived within six minutes.
“(Eleven) minutes after officers arrived, it was announced over the radio that shots had been fired by officers,” the release said.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, police said. The man’s identity was not immediately released.
Members of the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit, which includes personnel from the police department, Oregon State Police, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office also arrived, the release said.
Oregon State Police will head the investigation, the release said.
The department has not released the names of the officers involved.
