Puppeteers for Fears, Oregon's only dedicated puppet musical horror troupe, will present its original R-rated puppet show, “Cthulhu: the Musical!” at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant, 51 N. Main St., Ashland. Adapted from the 1929 short story, “The Call of Cthulhu,” by horror icon, H.P. Lovecraft, the play tells the story of Cthulhu, a giant, malevolent, octopus-faced elder god who hibernates beneath the ocean, communicating to humans through their dreams, slowly driving them mad. Detective LaGrasse is searching for a murderer. Francine Thurston’s uncle vanished. The only clue to both mysteries is a bizarre statue worshiped by a nightmarish cult. And it’s leading both of them out to sea, toward a mysterious island from their nightmares — and toward insanity. The production features a full cast of five actors with elaborate custom-made hand-and-rod (Muppet style) puppets, a full-rock band and projected multimedia backgrounds. This puppet show is not for children. Tickets are $15. For tickets and more information, see PuppeteersForFears.com.
