Sewell earns top honors for South squad

It wasn’t exactly the most memorable showing for the South baseball squad at the annual Richardson Oregon All-Star Series in Corvallis, but recent South Medford graduate Cameron Sewell was able to make the most of his weekend at Goss Stadium.

Sewell was named the South Most Outstanding Player after pitching two scoreless innings on Saturday and leading his team with two hits on Sunday, including an RBI double.
Sewell was the only South player to reach base more than one time Sunday, going 2-for-3 and also drawing a walk.
The versatile Sacramento State-bound player also was the only South player to author scoreless innings on the mound in the two-day all-star gathering of Class 6A and 5A seniors. On Saturday, Sewell allowed two hits with one walk and two strikeouts in closing out the contest.

The two-game showcase went decidedly in the North’s favor, outscoring South by a combined total of 20-4. North won 10-1 on Saturday and 10-3 on Sunday.
North Medford’s Trey Newmann got the start on Saturday and allowed three runs on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts in three innings.
North Medford outfielder Aiden Horsley went 0-for-3 in the showcase, and Crater infielder Hunter Scwhenk was 0-for-2 on Saturday and allowed two runs on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts in a one-inning stint on the mound Sunday.
Two weeks ago, Cascade Christian catcher Triston Wallace was named Defensive MVP for the East and Owen Thompson was named East Outstanding Player during the Class 3A/2A/1A All-Star Series in McMinnville. The East squad was coached by Cascade Christian’s Kevin Shafer.
Future Oregon State infielder Dawson Santana of Lakeridge earned MVP honors this past weekend as he went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs over the series for the North.
The North Most Outstanding Player was future Beavers infielder Levi Jones of Jesuit, who collected the opener’s game-winning hit with an RBI triple and singled in Sunday’s contest.
Austin Wolfe of Mountainside earned North Most Outstanding Pitcher honors as the lefty threw three hitless and scoreless innings on Saturday while striking out 6 and earning a save. The South Most Outstanding Pitcher was Simon Lemke of Mountain View, who threw three solid innings of relief in Sunday’s finale.
