Original story:

Grants Pass police are searching for a 23-year-old man after he allegedly used his vehicle to intentionally strike and kill another man early Tuesday morning.

The Grants Pass Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate Brennon Machado. The 23-year-old is described as white, six feet tall and about 200 pounds, with brown hair. He was last seen wearing a brown shirt, brown Carhartt pants and brown shoes, according to a news release.

At about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Grants Pass police received 911 reports of a male who was struck by a vehicle in the 2900 block of Highland Avenue. Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect driver had fled the scene on foot after striking and killing the victim. The 18-year-old male victim, who was not identified, was found dead at the scene.

Grants Pass police, along with detectives from Oregon State Police and Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene.

The subsequent investigation determined that Machado had intentionally struck the victim with the car, police said.

Police officers and K-9 units from the Grants Pass Police Department, assisted by OSP, BLM, the U.S. Forest Service and the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, spent hours searching unsuccessfully for the suspect in the wooded hills in the northwest portion of Grants Pass, the release said.

Machado is not believed to be armed, but people should avoid contact and call 9-1-1 immediately if he is spotted, the release said.

Police asked that anyone with video of the assault or Machado fleeing to upload the video to the following link: https://grantspass-or.evidence.com/axon/community-request/public/23-28209.

Anyone with tips about Machado’s whereabouts was urged to call the Grants Pass Police tipline at 541-237-5607 or email tipline@grantspassoregon.gov and reference case # 23-28209.

Oregon court records show Machado was arrested twice earlier this year, on April 7 for misdemeanor assault and strangulation, and on April 14 for resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
