Eagle Point resident and renowned actor and comedian Jim Belushi and his band of comedians are set to put on a fundraising show with the goal of raising enough money to complete the Butte Creek Mill restoration.
All of the money raised will go toward rejuvenating the historic mill, which burned down on Christmas morning in 2015.
The show is set to start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Belushi’s farm, 10535 Agate Road in Eagle Point. Tickets for Comedy on the Rogue cost from $250 to $1,000 and can be purchased at comedyontherogue.com.
“We know the ticket prices are a little bit steep, but 100% of it’s for the Butte Creek Mill rebuild,” said Bob Russell, former owner of the mill and advisor for the Butte Creek Mill Foundation.
In addition to Belushi, the Board of Comedy includes Megan Grano, Larry Joe Campbell, Joshua Funk and Trey Stone.
The group brings a comedic performance filled with input from the audience for scene suggestions, and sometimes participation from attendees.
“They travel the East Coast a lot doing comedy shows, and if you see them online, it’s kind of like a “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” kind of comedy,” said Karen Hammonds, the lead organizer of the fundraiser. “I asked Jim if he’d do one more fun thing for us, and he came up with Comedy on the Rogue.”
Beyond the humorous performances from the comedy group, Belushi is set to close out the event and perform a few of his favorite blues tunes while backed by the Belu Crew Band.
Organizers are hoping to raise at least $230,000 to wrap up renovation efforts for the historic mill’s interior.
The event will include beer, wine, tri-tip barbecue cooked by Bar Five Ranch owner John Dimick, along with salad and desserts from cupcakes to lemon bars.
“Beer and wine will be $5 a glass,” Hammonds said. “[Dimick] has a big barbecue wagon and gets some of his closest friends, and they put on the best tri-tip barbecue.”
“Everyone is out there is working for free, so we’re hoping to get them over the top to raise those final funds,” Hammonds added.
Since the mill burned down in 2015, organizers have raised about $2.5 million to bring the building back to its former glory.
“We became a nonprofit foundation, so all of the fundraising is tax deductible, and now it’s in better hands than me as the former owner because I could’ve sold it off,” Russell said of the mill. “Now we are completely owned by the nonprofit and it will carry on for generations to come.”
Belushi did two previous performances to raise money for the Butte Creek Mill.
“He’s always been very supportive of Eagle Point and the mill, and I can’t thank him enough for sticking his neck out on this with his comedian buddies,” Russell said of Belushi. “It’s about as first class as you can get with beautiful dinner and first-class comedy.”
“The mill is what marked Eagle Point on the map, and I just want that to be back again. I want the mill to be fully operational again,” Hammonds said. “It is one of the only water-powered grist mills west of the Mississippi River left.”
