Medford police took 37-year-old Michael Joseph Gregory Seems into custody around 4:30 p.m., according to a news release late Wednesday. Seems is a suspect in a shooting at the Grandview Gardens apartment complex at 2115 Roberts Road a day earlier that sent one person to a local hospital.
Police had scoured the east Medford neighborhood where the shooting was reported for much of the afternoon Tuesday before calling off the search at 3:30 p.m.
Around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, a Medford police detective spotted Seems as a passenger in a vehicle in Medford and followed the vehicle as it got onto northbound Interstate 5, police said in the release.

The detective coordinated responding units, and police were able to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle in Gold Hill, the release said. The vehicle briefly eluded the attempted traffic stop but eventually stopped on Lampman Road adjacent to the Rogue River. Police said Seems fled from the vehicle, down the embankment and into the river. He became trapped on the rocks, partially in the river, and remained uncooperative with police officers who were negotiating with him to exit the river, according to the release.
Officers were able to rescue Seems from the river and assist him up the bank, where he was taken into custody, the release said.
“All known witnesses and participants in this case have been identified and interviewed. The firearm believed to have been used in this case has been recovered,” police said.
Seems was scheduled to be lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges including attempted murder and first-degree assault.
The victim in Tuesday’s shooting is in stable condition at a local hospital, police said.
This is a developing story and will be updated as warranted.
