- Medford police responded Dec. 3 to a reported shooting in a parking lot at the Charles Point Apartments in south Medford. Two people died, police said.
Two 17-year-olds from Grants Pass were arrested this weekend in the fatal shootings of two adult men Dec. 3 at the Charles Point Apartments in south Medford.
On Monday, authorities shed more light on what might have led up to the victims’ deaths.
The teens, whose names are not being released, were contacted and arrested by Medford police detectives on charges of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection to the deaths of Dontrell Manninen, 33, and Christian Torres, 26, according to a Medford Police Department news release. The teens were lodged in the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Facility.
While detectives continue to investigate the Charles Point case, the department said in the release that authorities believe the shootings broke out “over a past disagreement.” Shots were fired by “multiple parties,” the release said.
The department also said Monday that the case will be prosecuted by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office and “no further information will be released on this case at this time.”
Police did not say when the arrests were made or what information led detectives to apprehend the suspects.
The department has said the apartment shooting was unrelated to a Dec. 1 shooting outside of a Buffalo Wild Wings in Medford. The suspect in that case, Joseph Larry Lopez, 18, of Grants Pass, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree assault.
Medford police Lt. Geoff Kirkpatrick was unavailable for comment Monday.
