Fronckowiak supplies cohesive efforts for Cascade

Any great basketball team will need a strong role player to help facilitate a deep postseason run.

So look no further than what Jaren Fronckowiak did for the Cascade Christian boys with his eight points, six assists and four steals in a dominant 91-28 victory over Lakeview on Wednesday night.

Among talents like Austin Maurer and Avery Huston, Fronckowiak makes their lives easier as he made both of his 3-point attempts to space the floor in the Far West League matchup.

And the junior has fully embraced his role for the Challengers (6-5, 3-0 FWL) in his second year at the school.

“I love it,” said Fronckowiak. “It just fits me.”

He is a plug-and-play guard that helps with ball-handling duties and is a point-of-attack defender.

“I just try to do anything I can,” Fronckowiak said about doing the dirty work. “If it’s scoring, rebounding, assists, trying to get my teammates open … I just try to just be a key player in whatever role I can be.”

Fronckowiak has remained a dependable player for Cascade Christian and taken advantage of the attention that his teammates may receive.

“He brings so much consistency in his play,” said Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse. “He’s one of our most efficient players because he does a lot of things that nobody really sees except us coaches.”

On the floor, he is described as a “glue guy” by Austin Maurer for helping spacing and filling in as a leader.

“This year, his role has gotten even bigger,” said Maurer, who finished with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds Wednesday. “He has just been expanding his game and has more responsibility.”

With his four steals, Fronckowiak was also an important part of the speed that the Challengers played with in the open court, as Huston added 20 points and Deryk Farmer had nine points.

And no matter the game, Fronckowiak is a high-level competitor that leads by example as the younger players have learned how to blend into any unit that the Challengers throw out.

“I’m not planning on being here forever,” said Fronckowiak. “I want to help this program before I’m gone by helping them understand coach and hear a different voice.”

Even after the Challengers pulled away quickly against the Honkers (3-8, 2-1), other role players followed suit like Kellan Kleker, who scored eight straight points in the second quarter. The senior had 11 points after going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Peyton Maurer added six points along with six rebounds and three assists.

Cascade Christian remains undefeated in league play heading into a much-anticipated matchup at 7 p.m. Saturday when the Challengers will host St. Mary’s. The Crusaders also stand unbeaten in FWL play entering Friday’s road contest at Lakeview.

“We are excited that both teams are undefeated,” Morse said about the upcoming rivalry game. “With first place on the line, it ups the ante. We are really excited to play against good teams like them.”

Girls BasketballCASCADE CHRISTIAN 51, LAKEVIEW 42: Cascade Christian’s Isabel McCauley had a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds to go with three assists and two steals in the Far West League showdown.

The Challengers (8-5, 3-0 FWL) also registered nine points and eight rebounds from Jordynn Jones, and the team only committed eight turnovers.

Grace McCauley put up eight points, five rebounds and three steals, while Timnah Roberson and Emma Coats scored five points apiece against Lakeview (5-7, 1-1).
