The Panther boys outscored the Cavemen 51-27 with pins from Blake Harris at 120 pounds, Wesley Clark (132), Brody Foss (138), Carson Alvarez (157), Bridger Foss (175), Corbyn Schumack (190) and Isa De La Torre (215).
“We wrestled with a lot of toughness and competed well,” said South Medford head coach James Schumack. “In wrestling, there’s always going to be things to work on, but when you wrestle tough and put out effort, you give yourself a chance to win and, in this sport, you always want to make sure you’re happy with the effort you put forth. The biggest critic is usually yourself, and when you know you left it all out there, you can at least be at peace with the most important critic.”
Harris and Alvarez had impressive takedowns that happened in less than a minute for the Panthers, along with Wesley Hamrin getting uncontested points at 113 pounds.
