West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin III was set to announce Friday that he will not be running for president in 2024, a source familiar with his plans confirmed.

Manchin had been touted as a potential independent candidate for the “No Labels” ticket, and a cross-country listening tour did little to tamp down speculation that he might run.

Manchin was set to make his announcement during remarks at West Virginia University, which began with Manchin talking about his personal and professional history, as well as recent efforts to craft an immigration and border security compromise. The former Mountain State governor had previously announced he was retiring from the Senate at the end of his term.
