Diane S Miller
March 22, 1939 – January 16, 2024
Diane Miller, 84, of Ashland, Oregon passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at her home. She was born March 22, 1939, in Los Angeles, California to Francis and Barbara DeMers. She had two brothers, Daniel, and David.
Diane graduated from Escondido High and went on to study at Woodbury University, earning two bachelor’s degrees in both advertising and business administration. After college, she met and married George Neil Alotis in 1961 and had a daughter named Renee. They lived in Lawndale, California, and then divorced a few years later. In 1967, Diane met and married Charles (Chuck) Miller in Huntington Park, California, and had a son named Jeff and moved to Ashland, Oregon in 1974.
In 1975, Diane started volunteering for Jackson County 4-H doing everything from superintending at fairs, leading clubs, putting together fair books, doing record book training, training volunteer judges, and entering scores and awards with ShoWorks software. She became a member of the Jackson County 4-H Leaders Association, serving for many years, and also served as a program assistant from 2005 – 2016. There was nothing she would not do for our 4-H members, parents, and volunteers. Diane was the go-to person for all 4-H knowledge. She did not stop there – she also served youth at the state and national level. Diane guided so many county 4-H youth through the process of becoming a delegate to the National 4-H Congress. While many were not chosen, due to limited funding, most, if not all, went on to the conference where they were interviewed. Diane retired from her 4-H duties in 2020 after more than 40 years of service. Her legacy and accomplishments will long be remembered by the youth, parents, and leaders whose lives she touched.
When not volunteering with 4-H, Chuck and Diane loved to travel. They had many happy trips throughout Europe together. Diane also worked for about five years as a reporter/editor at Ashland Daily Tidings after they moved from California. After that, she worked as a secretary and later as a library assistant at Ashland High School until 1995.
Diane is survived by her husband, Chuck, their two children Renee Smith of Sacramento, Jeff Miller of Bellevue, Washington, and her brother, David DeMers. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband George Alotis, and her brother Daniel DeMers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please donate to local youth organizations.
