Historic Candlelight Tour: Explore the secrets and mysteries of Jacksonville’s historic Beekman Bank on Saturday, March 9. Regional historian Ben Truwe pursues these and other secrets and mysteries in 50-minute lantern light tours beginning at 5, 6:15, and 7:30 p.m. each tour night. Established in 1856 as a gold dust office, the current 1863 Beekman Bank building was constructed by Cornelius C. Beekman at 110 W. California Street in Jacksonville when he became the town’s Wells Fargo agent. Over $40 million in gold crossed Beekman’s counters during Jacksonville’s heyday in the 1800s — equivalent to almost $1 billion in today’s currency. Admission is $5. Gem and Mineral Show: The Roxy Ann Gem and Mineral Society will host their 68th annual Gem and Mineral Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 16, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in the Seven Feathers Arena at the Jackson County Expo, 1 Peninger Road, Central Point. Low-cost Pet Vaccines: Make an appointment for your pet to get vaccinated and microchipped the third Saturday of each month. This drive-thru, appointment-only clinic is open to dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Vaccines available for dogs are rabies and the vaccine for distemper, distemper, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, and the parvovirus. The FVRCP vaccine available for cats is for panleukopenia (feline distemper), rhinotracheitis, and calicivirus. Reservations must be made by Friday before the scheduled clinic. All vaccinations are $20 each; microchips are $25 per pet. This is a cash-only clinic. All pets must be in good health. Living History Tour: Step back almost a century and experience Depression-era Jacksonville. Become part of this one-hour “play” as you interact with actors portraying Carrie and Ben Beekman, other Beekman family members and their former housekeeper. The Beekmans will sort through family belongings, commenting on 1932 local and national events, and reminiscing about life in the late 1800s as one of Southern Oregon’s richest and most prominent pioneer families.
