North Medford wins boys bowling state title

- Members of the North Medford boys bowling team celebrate winning at the high school state championships.
Over the past weekend, local high school bowlers from the Rogue Valley rolled out fantastic results at the high school state finals.

At the AMF Firebird Lanes in Salem, the North Medford boys bowling team captured its second state championship in the last three years and will compete at nationals for the second straight year.
Austin McFarland and Mason Trapp earned state all-star honors for the Black Tornado at the end of the tournament.
Along with the all-star duo, Trevor Dodd, Cody Carlson, Mitchell Biermann, Eric Drake, Bryson Poff and Kayden Morris will go to Pennsylvania from June 6-11 to compete at nationals.

After winning its first district title in 20 years, South Medford finished in a tie with Roseburg for fifth place and also qualified for nationals.
The six national-bound Panthers are Seth Meyer, Nathaniel Garcia, Kadyn Garcia, Ashtyn Farrington, Jacob Bruff and Gavin Wilkinson.
With bowling being an unsanctioned sport, North Medford and South Medford will be fundraising to help pay for the cost of travel, entry fees, lodging and shipping of bowling balls for nationals.
Crater’s Michael McCune punched his ticket to Pennsylvania after he tied for first in the finals of the boys open division last Friday at Mt. Hood Lanes in Gresham.
McCune tied with Blake Pennington of Cottage Grove at 677 points, 213-222, 256-211, 208-244.
Other finishers in the boys open finals had two top-20 finishers from North Medford with MacFarland in sixth place with 646 points (226, 199, 221) and Biermann placed 11th with 617 (192, 241, 184).
For South Medford, Bruff finished in 10th with 618 points (212, 160, 246).
