Postal Service changes could impact delivery of medications

In regards to the designation of Medford as “rural” and changes to the United States Postal Service (USPS) Distribution Center in Medford: Ruch and Buncom are rural; Prospect and Butte Falls are rural.

Medford has Jackson County’s largest size, population, employment, businesses and seat of government, both city and county. We are not Mayberry!

On a personal note, let me tell you how the USPS is screwing up getting my prescriptions by mail.

On Feb. 26, my doctor at the V.A. Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinics called in a prescription for me. I didn’t get it by March 1, so I called to check on it (and was told) “It’s in the pipeline.”

I called again on March 7 and a V.A. pharmacist checked online and said the prescription had been sent from the V.A. in Chicago and was checked into the USPS Distribution Center in Oakland at 3 a.m. that day, so I should get it Friday, or Saturday at the latest.

Today is March 11, and still no prescription from Oakland. It could have come over the Siskiyous by mule train by now! Thank God it’s not a cardiac medication or another urgently needed med, huh?

Commissioners measures forum proved worthwhile for all

Thank you to Jackson County for All and to those who attended the town hall at the Medford Library.

This was an important opportunity for Jackson County citizens from a broad range of political perspectives to come together for an informative presentation on county budgeting priorities, the reasons for creating the ballot initiatives, and how the proposed changes to the office of commissioner will benefit the citizens of our county.

I believe, and from audience participation, whether you were for, against, or undecided, it didn’t matter — all of us in the room valued the time talking about finding a solution.

Everyone attending had the privilege of participating in true grassroots democracy. That’s a good thing.
