Hundreds hopped their way to Central Point’s Twin Creeks Park to celebrate and hunt for eggs at the annual Easter Eggtravaganza, organized by the city of Central Point’s Parks and Recreation Department.
The event included plenty to do, from meeting and tasking a picture with the Easter Bunny to grabbing a bite at one of multiple food trucks to taking part in one of four age-divided Easter egg hunts and winning raffle prizes.
Organizers set up more than 35,000 eggs in total for each of the egg hunts, according to officials with the city of Central Point.
Attending with her son Mitch Kuropat and his twin boys Axel and Rider Kuropat, the Easter Eggstravaganza is a yearly tradition for Rhochelle Kuropat and her family.
The Kuropats have been attending for “years and years, ever since (the twins) started doing the activities out here,” Rhochelle Kuropat said.
“They put on all kinds of nice events here and this is one we never miss. They really enjoy it with all the activities and pictures with the Easter Bunny and, of course, the big Easter egg hunt,” Rhochelle Kuropat said.
The six-year-old Central Point twins were confident in their egg-grabbing capabilities with a couple years of egg hunt experience, Axel and Rider Kuropat said.
Egg hunt participants would receive potentially prizes from the organizers such as toys, coloring kits and others based on how many eggs they were able to grab.
The Easter Eggstravazanza has been going on for around 20 or so years for the Central Point community as well as surrounding areas.
“It’s always been such a big hit with the community, and the neighborhood is so receptive of allowing us to take over, so we appreciate that too,” said Nikki Petersen, recreation manager for the city of Central Point Parks and Recreation department and one of the main organizers of the event. “It’s just a great day, and the weather’s beautiful.”
A key focus for Petersen and others with the parks and recreation department is providing community events that aren’t cost restrictive or limit participants of differing abilities.
“The city of Central Point and parks and recreation, we’re really community oriented so just about every event that we do is free for the community, from Movies in the Park to Easter to Made in Southern Oregon to Community Christmas, you name it; for the most part, everything is absolutely free,” Petersen said.
“We love to be accessible for everybody and we don’t want anything to be cost prohibitive,” Petersen added.
The Easter Eggstravaganza included an ADA-accessible area that included beeping eggs and magnetic eggs capable of being collected with magnetic poles for participants in wheelchairs.
The section also served as a spot for noise-sensitive community members to also enjoy Easter.
“We have an ADA area for those that want more of a quiet Easter egg experience,” Petersen said.
A play space for kids ages 0 through 3 was provided by sponsor Chiquitos Soft Play for visiting tots.
Enjoying the play space was 2-year-old Carter Hanshew with parents Richard Hanshew and Jessyka Vandernick
“It’s a very nice day today and we’re over here playing in the area with the kids and this is new for us, having the kid area,” Richard Hanshew said, adding, “It’s very nice to have something for the kids to play in.”
On the other side of the Twin Creeks Park, a line of close to 100 attendees was waiting to see the Easter Bunny and get a photo with the lovable rabbit, who arrived on a utility vehicle, earning an ovation of cheers from the attendees.
Visitors also had the opportunity to take photos with the fancifully-garbed members of the Elegant Bustles and Bows Historical Costume Group, wearing a range of pastels and bright-colored, Victorian attire for the spring season.
“This is a Victorian outfit, probably the 1900s, and we do a lot of embellishments on our clothes to make them look authentic,” said Jackie Craig of the Elegant Bustles and Bows Historical Costume Group on. Her spring green outfit.
“Our group is eight years old; I started it in Central Point and we do things throughout the whole valley,” Craig said, adding, “We do historical fashion shows all over the valley, museums and different things.”
