South Medford's Hanna Turpin, shown against North Medford, scored three times and drove in two runs Tuesday to lead the Panthers over Willamette.

South Medford juniors Jayden Cote and Hanna Turpin each supplied RBI triples during a five-run second inning that created enough cushion for a 10-3 win over Willamette in Southwest Conference softball Tuesday.

The effort marked a fourth win in the last five contests for the host Panthers, who are battling to keep pace in a talented conference title chase led by reigning Class 6A state champion Sheldon (10-3, 7-0 SWC).

North Medford took a half-game edge over Roseburg for second place with its win Tuesday, while the Panthers remained a half-game behind the Indians as teams neared the midway mark of the SWC season.

Aubree Joe ripped a two-run single in the fourth inning to help answer a pair of runs by Willamette (4-12, 0-9), and Turpin’s RBI double highlighted a three-run surge in the sixth inning for the Panthers (7-7, 5-3) that sealed the conference victory.

Turpin finished 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, while Cote was 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI and Joe went 2-for-2 with one run and three RBIs.
