Connor Gibbs served 23 straight points in the first set for St. Mary’s to secure an eventual 25-3, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of host Phoenix in the Southern Region boys volleyball contest Monday.

The Crusaders (15-3) also had Nolan Hensman serve 13 straight points in the second set with three aces. Hensman finished with eight digs and four kills and Gibbs had seven digs and three aces.

St. Mary’s also had C.J. Seggelink record 13 assists, while Alex Xu came up with 11 digs and Chris Kranenburg had 12 kills.

Nakoa Potts registered four assists, three aces and three digs for Phoenix (1-12), while Angel Nunez added eight kills.

The Pirates also saw Aaron Chavez dish out 12 assists and Logan Frazier put up three kills and two blocks.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, ASHLAND 2: At Ashland, Grayson Higley had a career-high 16 kills to go with 11 digs but Ashland came up short in a 20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-12, 15-13 loss to visiting Cascade Christian.

John Bare also had 21 digs and four aces to lead the Grizzlies (14-9), and Noah Hendrix with 19 assists, eight digs and two aces.
