OUTDOOR ADVENTURES: Boatnik in Grants Pass, hikes, walks and more

The Grants Pass Active Club presents the 60th Boatnik festival Thursday through Monday at Riverside Park in Grants Pass, with boat races, a carnival, a downtown parade on Saturday and fireworks on Friday and Sunday, plus other activities.

Proceeds go to charities benefiting children. Carnival armbands are $34.

Sprint boat and drag boat races and demonstrations are held Saturday and Sunday in the late morning and afternoons. Hydroplane boats compete in the Tom Rice Memorial Race from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday.

The Davis Shows carnival is open 2 to 9:45 p.m. Thursday, noon to 11:45 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday to Monday.

Friday’s schedule includes a boat demonstration from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at dusk.

Saturday’s schedule includes a huge parade down Sixth Street from 10 a.m. to noon and boat exhibitions from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday’s schedule includes boat exhibitions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. followed by fireworks at dusk.

A Memorial Day celebration is set for 11:40 a.m. Monday with a flyover at 11:45 a.m., plus the hydroplane race from 1 to 3 p.m.

Shuttles are available from the Josephine County Fairgrounds and Grants Pass High School 4:30 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The Rogue River will be closed for boat races and other Boatnik activities between Baker Park and the Caveman Bridge 6 to 10:15 p.m. Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, noon to 10:15 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to noon Monday. The river will be closed for racing from Baker Park to Robertson Bridge from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Monday.

Hike the Layton Ditch Trail

The Williams Community Forest Project will lead a hike on the Layton Ditch Trail on Saturday. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Williams Grange, 20100 Williams Highway.

Cemetery open house is Monday

The IOOF Eastwood Cemetery Memorial Day open house is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at 1581 Siskiyou Blvd. Staff and volunteers with Medford Parks and Recreation will be on hand. Grave location assistance will be available, and the mausoleum will be open.

Lithia Park tours held Saturdays

Experience the history, flora and fauna of Lithia Park in Ashland during a guided tour led by volunteers at 10 a.m. on Saturdays through September.

The free walks are 60 to 90 minutes and open to locals and visitors alike. Meet guides at the front entrance of Lithia Park across from the Plaza.

The walks have been offered since 1989 by the Ashland Parks & Recreation Commission.

Take a neighborhood walk at libraries

Libraries in Gold Hill and Butte Falls offer weekly walks, rain or shine:

• A neighborhood walk is held noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday from the Gold Hill Library to the Gold Hill Sports Park and back. Call 541-855-1994 for more information.
