A Central Point man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to accusations that he attempted to kill a woman on Christmas Day 2023.

Martin Ollila, 35, made the plea during his arraignment in Jackson County Circuit Court following his arrest on Saturday.

Ollila, a convicted felon, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, attempted first-degree assault, felon in possession of a firearm, menacing, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and a parole violation, according to court records and court filings.

Ollila was indicted by a grand jury May 22 and a warrant for his arrest was signed by Judge Sara Collins Thursday, court records show. Jackson County sheriff’s deputies made the arrest Saturday, according to the Jackson County Jail roster.

Ollila was initially lodged in jail without bail, but on Tuesday, Judge Kelly Ravassipour set bail at $1 million for the attempted second-degree murder charge. Ollila was also ordered not to possess firearms or have contact with the victim.

Deputy District Attorney Melissa LeRitz, the lead prosecutor, said she could not comment on the case or provide additional information about the accusations, which were unavailable in court records Tuesday.

Ollila was convicted of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and unlawful use of a weapon in Grants Pass in 2015. He was sentenced to prison for striking a male victim in the head with a firearm, according to court records. Ollila then chased after the victim, fired at him and missed, court records said.

Ollila’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 10.
