Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center is one of two hospitals in Oregon to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for providing high-quality health care to patients in underserved communities.
The Medford hospital joins Salem Hospital as “Best Regional Hospitals for Equitable Access” in Oregon, according to a Wednesday announcement from the publication. Recipients were announced at an event titled “The State of Equity in America” Wednesday at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The new accolade highlights 53 hospitals in 26 states that met at least two of the following categories in 2023:
- Having 40% or more of its patients from a “community of greater socioeconomic deprivation”;
- Serving 20% or more racial/ethnic minority patients, or was in the highest tier;
- Served 20% or more Medicaid patients, or was in U.S. News’ highest tier in low-income patient representation.
According to health equity data on U.S. News’ ranking page for Asante RRMC, the hospital’s representation of low-income patients is significantly higher than that of other hospitals.
It also notes that RRMC’s representation of non-white patients treated by the hospital for elective procedures is moderately lower than the residents’ representation in the community.
Non-white residents make up 4% of the community served by RRMC and 2.6% of the patients treated for elective procedures. Hispanic patients make up 1.2% of the community and 0.4% of patients treated at the hospital for elective procedures.
The report had insufficient data for Black, Native American, Asian American and Pacific Islander patients.
