- Medford Mustangs returner Tristan Mallari connects for a hit during the first inning Tuesday against Klamath Falls at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
With no rest for the weary when it comes to the summer slate, the Medford Mustangs took down Chico, 2-0, behind a stellar outing from Tristan Mallari to wrap up a California road trip that saw Medford play four games in three days and take the field for the seventh straight day Monday.
The South Medford product Mallari allowed two hits in a complete-game shutout. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter, while also helping his own cause by going 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.
Mallari’s second double of the contest led off the fifth inning and set up the Mustangs’ first run when Davis Carr singled home courtesy runner Easton Curtis after an error placed him at third base.
Medford (5-2-1) added an insurance run in the seventh when Eli Havey, Mallari and Carr provided consecutive singles to load the bases. Curtis, again serving as a courtesy runner, was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Long.
After wrapping up the California trip, Medford will return home Wednesday for a 6 p.m. matchup with Roseburg Dr. Stewart’s at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
Prior to Monday’s effort, Sunday offered Medford another wild date with Yuba, with the teams tying 9-9 after each scored four times in the seventh inning and ended on a time limit.
Freeman Rountree went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Havey was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Carr went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Dominic Daffron led the hit parade by going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, and Kellen Willer also drove in a pair of runs in the seesaw affair.
As part of two games on Sunday, Medford was able to hold off Fairfield for a 9-5 victory after the Mustangs received a lift from the bottom part of the lineup as Kaleb Long went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Carr continued his hot streak by going 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs, while Triston Wallace went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI and Jackson Rosenthal was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.
