An Eagle Point man died Sunday at the scene of a single-vehicle crash in Douglas County, according to Oregon State Police.

Austin Cordell Belford, 31, was not wearing a seatbelt when the Ford F150 he was riding in rolled down an embankment off Highway 230, near milepost 10, around 8 a.m., a news release said.

The driver, a Portland man, was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the release.

Speed and occupant safety are considered the primary causes of the crash, the release said.

The truck was heading southbound when it went off the shoulder of the roadway on a left-hand turn, the release said. The driver overcorrected back across the roadway before the truck rolled several times down the embankment, according to the release. The truck came to a rest on its passenger side, ejecting Belford, the release said.

An on-scene investigation impacted the highway for four and a half hours. OSP was assisted by Diamond Lake Resort First Responders, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
