- Allegiant Airlines will end its seasonal route connecting Medford to Los Angeles International Airport in August. The airline said the route is not a cut or a cancellation because the route will return once Boeing fulfills the airline's aircraft orders.
Citing aircraft manufacturing delays, Allegiant Airlines will temporarily halt its summer route connecting Medford to Los Angeles International Airport starting in August.
Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport announced that Allegiant Airlines is pausing its seasonal trips to LAX from Aug. 14 through Feb. 5 in a Facebook post.
Reached for comment, the airline stated in an email that the flight is not a cut or cancellation because the routes will return. Instead, the airline is just ending its seasonal LAX route early.
“We have strategically adjusted our schedule in some markets in anticipation of receiving fewer Boeing aircraft in 2024 than initially expected,” an Allegiant media representative said in an email. “That means reducing capacity on some routes.”
The airline brought the LAX route to Medford for the season on May 17, according to an Allegiant release.
The airline’s business model focuses on flexibility and considers all of its routes seasonal, according to the airline. It schedules routes based on when demand is highest during summer, winter holidays or spring break.
The Medford route is one of 18 Allegiant put on hiatus across the country through the fall and winter. According to a post about the cuts on travel blog thepointsguy.com, two routes were put on hiatus in Eugene: One Eugene flight connected Lane County to LAX, the other to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas.
Other Allegiant flights ending early include:
• Austin flights to Dulles; Las Vegas; and Omaha;
• Nashville flights to Akron; Dulles; Jacksonville, Florida; Bozeman, Montana; Eastern Iowa; and Chicago;
• Baltimore to Sarasota
• Los Angeles to Omaha, Chicago, and Laredo, Texas;
• And routes from Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in Florida to Columbus, Ohio and Huntington, West Virginia
Allegiant states that the airline will still offer routes connecting the Rogue Valley to Southern California, including flights to San Diego International Airport and John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California.
