June 7, 1934 – May 23, 2024

Robert Gould Kaufman, M.D., passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2024 in Medford, Oregon, surrounded by family. Known as “Bob” to friends and “Bobber” to his grandchildren, he was nearly 90. Born on June 7, 1934, in Salem, Oregon, Robert was the second of five children of Dr. Charles Louis Kaufman and Margaret Fields (Morehouse) Kaufman. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Marilyn (née Russell), children Lynne (Zach), Mary Beth (Kevin), Nancy (John), and David (Jamie), his eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, brother Rick, sisters Karen and Carolyn.

Robert graduated from Willamette University with a BS in biology in 1956. After serving in the Navy, he earned his medical degree from the University of Oregon Medical School (OHSU), specializing in OB/GYN. In 1973, he joined an OB/GYN practice in Medford at the invitation of his best friend, Dr. Frank “Dick” Moore. Robert’s career was dedicated to women’s healthcare, with a focus on infertility. Robert was an avid reader, art and music lover, master storyteller, devoted “cat dad,” and lifelong San Francisco Giants fan. In his 80s, he took up painting and gourmet cooking, delighting all with his whimsical artwork and culinary creations. All who knew him were touched by his compassionate wisdom and playful humor.

A memorial service will be held on July 18th at 2:00 PM at Ashland First United Methodist Church, 175 N Main St, Ashland, OR 97520. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any of these organizations “in memory of Dr. Robert G.
