UPDATE: Crews contain most of Grant Road fire in Central Point; evac orders drop a level

- Fire crews from Fire District 3 along with other agencies worked to stop a grass fire on Grant Road that threatened nearby structures.
Jackson County Fire District 3 says it has stopped forward progress — and nearby structures are no longer threatened — after a Tuesday afternoon structure fire rapidly escalated to a two-alarm grass fire on Grant Road in Central Point.

Fire District 3 and Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon crews contained the fire on the east and north sides, and confirmed that neighboring structures are protected, according to an update issued at 4:47 p.m. from the agency on its Facebook page.
Crews are starting mop-up work in the areas that are contained, but Fire District 3 and ODF are still working on the south and west sides. ODF is bringing air support.
Evacuation levels have since dropped from Level 2 “Be Set” to Level 1 “Be Ready” in Zone CPT-001. The zone is located between Grant Road, West Pine Street and Highway 99. For more information on local evacuation zones see protect.genasys.com.

The structure fire was first reported at 3:58 p.m. in the 4200 block of Grant Road, according to dispatch data via PulsePoint.
By 4:15 p.m., Fire District 3 upgraded the fire to a second alarm as it spread to an estimated 10 to 15 acres. Crews including District 3 and the Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District are working on a structural protection plan to stop the fire’s forward progress.
