RURAL CENTRAL POINT — A Central Point man died Saturday night when a car struck him in the 400 block of Wilson Road, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

Early reports suggest 35-year-old Omar Salas Ibarra was looking to cross the road, which is in a rural area outside the city, when a woman, heading east in a black 1998 Honda Civic, hit him with her vehicle, the release said.

A medical examiner with the Central Point Police Department, sheriff’s office detectives and the Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team arrived to investigate, the release said.

The county STAR Team is now handling the investigation, the release said.

“Next of kin was notified on scene,” the sheriff’s office said in the release, adding: “Our condolences go out to his family and friends.”
