At capacity: Jackson County waiving, reducing adoption fees for shelter dogs

Southern Oregonians seeking a new, furry family member have the opportunity to provide a home to one or multiple pawed pals, with Jackson County Animal Services waiving or reducing adoption fees for shelter dogs who have been at the facility for 100 days or more.

The Jackson County animal shelter has hit full capacity through much of 2024, leading organizers to strongly encourage residents to adopt new pets along with reducing adoption costs to provide space for future animals being brought to the facility.

The shelter is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at its building at 5595 S. Pacific Highway in Phoenix.

The reduced or waived adoption fees are being facilitated through funding provided by Jackson County Animal Services.

“In an effort to reduce the number of dogs in the shelter, we are expanding adoption fee discounts,” FOTAS said in a Facebook post.

“Dogs that have been in the shelter 100-plus days have their adoption fee waived ($0), dogs whose length of stay is between 75 to 99 days are $75, and all other adoptable adult dogs are only $90 ($125 for puppies).”

The typical adoption fee for adult dogs is $180.

Multiple dogs at the shelter are awaiting adoption.

Arrow, an adult pit bull and terrier mix, is seeking his forever home along with adult Border Collie mix Christian, young German shepherd Zorro and many other canines.

In a second opportunity to adopt a cat or dog, FOTAS is teaming up with Rogue Valley Pet in Central Point for a puppy and kitten adoption event 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

FOTAS will have several animals to meet at Rogue Valley Pet, located at 1205 Plaza Blvd., Central Point.
