First Friday Art Walk

Stroll the galleries, studios and restaurants and take in the visual and flavorful delights in downtown Ashland and the Historic Railroad District from 5 to 8 p.m. the first Friday of every month. This free, year-round community event is filled with a diverse array of artwork, eclectic visual delights, intimate music, artist demonstrations, refreshments and conversation. The experience continues to grow as you visit each gallery and studio. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues. American Trails: The gallery, located in the Columbia Hotel, 250 E. Main St., Ashland, features art and crafts of the Indigenous peoples in North and South America. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. See americantrails.com or call 541-482-2553.

Art & Soul Ashland: The gallery features paintings in a variety of media and styles, pottery, photography and more by local and regional artists. Throughout September, see paintings by Linda Lamore in the exhibit “Limitless Reflections.” Art & Soul Ashland, 247 E. Art du Jour Gallery: See exhibits by local artists in myriad media such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, pen-and-ink, Conté crayon, collage, sculpture, photography, mixed media and more. During the month of September the Feature Wall will display the assemblage work of Nancy Sterling and the Art Vault will showcase work by pastel artist Bonnie Mcmanus. The gallery, at 213 E. Art on First: Currently featured at Art on First gallery, 20 S. First St., Ashland, are vibrant landscape paintings by Jessica Johnson. Art Presence Art Center: The gallery, at 206 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville, features work by member artists in a variety of media including oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic and fabric. Beginning Sept. 7 and running throughout the month, paintings by Todd Lovett and Nancy Darte will be featured. The gallery is open from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays-Sundays. Ashland Art Works: The gallery features the work of local artists in a variety of media, including ceramics, woodwork, fiber arts, jewelry and garden art. Featured throughout September will be woodworks by John Weston and ceramics by Penelope Dews. The art collective, at 291 Oak St., Ashland, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays. Big Dog Studio: John Pugh will unveil his final sketch for the Ashland Elks Lodge Mural during Ashland’s First Friday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Big Dog Studio, 255 Helman St., No. 1 C, Ashland. Fiber Arts Collective: See the work of approximately 30 fiber artisans at 37 N. Third St., Ashland. Exhibits include sewing, dyeing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, felting, binding, collaging, painting, printing, stenciling, beading and assemblage pieces. Currently featured is the exhibit, “Deconstructing Beauty,” featuring mixed media sculptures by Eyliana Gibson, on view throughout September. Grants Pass Museum of Art: The museum, located upstairs at 229 S.W. Gypsy Road Studio: The two-story gallery, located at 369 E. Main Street, Ashland, offers a global experience of international and local artwork, vintage and artisan jewelry, rare global antiquities, home decor, collectibles and artisan pieces and a contemporary salon-style art gallery. Houston’s Custom Framing and Fine Art: The gallery, at 280 E. Hersey St., Suite 11, Ashland, is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and by appointment. Lithia Artisans Market: The Lithia Artisans Market will participate in Ashland’s First Friday Art Walk from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, on Calle Guanajuato in downtown Ashland, near Lithia Park. Oak Leaf Studio: Located at 247 Oak St., Ashland, Oak Leaf Studio is the working and gallery space of local artist Leif Trygg, who works in a variety of media, including pastel, watercolor, acrylic and digital imaging. Rogue Gallery & Art Center: The gallery, featuring work by local artists, at 40 S. Bartlett St., Medford, is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The Main Gallery exhibit “Natural Conversations” will showcase the work of Rebecca Arthur, Geralyn Inokuchi and Susan Lehman, on display Sept.6-Oct 25. The Community Gallery is currently showing the exhibit, “Clouds & Water,” featuring photographic double-exposures by Al Crane, on view through Sept. 27. Schneider Museum of Art: Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art, 555 Indiana St. Ashland, will be closed through Oct. 16 for an exhibition change. The museum displays a rotating slate of exhibitions focused on historical and contemporary perspectives of art and progressive work by local artists and nationally and internationally-recognized artists. Siskiyou Gallery House: The gallery, 2475 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, features fine art in myriad media such as watercolor, egg tempera, acrylic, pencil and ink, handcrafted jewelry, hand-painted wearable silk art and locally crafted herbal tinctures. Talent Gallery: The new Talent Gallery, 111 Talent Ave., Talent, occupies the restored historic Malmgren Garage. Nineteen member artists show a wide range of styles and mediums including painting, original prints, ceramics, photography and fossil sculptures. Window Art: See temporary art installations in empty storefront windows in downtown Ashland. Work by Sarah Peters will be shown in the window at 180 Lithia Way; paintings by Michael Reinsch can be seen in the window at 25 E. Main St., Suite A.
