Ani-Medford: Ani-Medford, an annual convention celebrating anime, Tokusatsu and manga, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at Rogue X, 901 Rossanley Drive, Medford. The two-day event focuses on all things Japanese culture-related with activities such as Japanese video games, panel discussions, anime special guests, exhibitors of all genres, vendors, cosplayers, costume contests and more. Special guests include Laurie Hymes, known for her voice acting roles in “Yu-Gi-Oh!” and “Pokémon;” Chris Cason, voice actor for English-language productions of Japanese anime shows mostly with Funimation including “Fullmetal Alchemist;” Emily Cramer, who has voiced creatures and trainers on “Pokémon,” leads on “Yu-Gi-Oh!,” “The Winx Club,” and more; Kelsey Cruz, voice actor in “Spy x Family,” “I Got A Cheat Skill in Another World,” and many other anime and game titles; Jordan Dash Cruz, who has been involved in a multitude of anime titles and video games including “Genshin Impact;” YouTube/Twitch streamer and video game speedrunner Nitevision; and pop punk and opera fusion artist IgikoPop. Portland-based band Under the Deku Tree will perform jazz/funk renditions of classic anime and video game soundtracks. Scarecrow Festival: The Southern Oregon Historical Society will hold its 14th annual Scarecrow Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at the historic Hanley Farm, 1053 Hanley Road, Central Point. Everything you need to build an authentic, straw-filled scarecrow will be provided, including frame, straw, clothes accessories and more. Scarecrow kits are $20. When you complete your scarecrow, you can put it in the farm’s field for judging and take it home later, or take it home right away. Recovery Festival: The annual Strong & Courageous Recovery Festival — an event that celebrates addiction recovery and first responders — organized by the addictions recovery nonprofit ROC Recovery Center will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Lava Lanes, 2980 Crater Lake Highway, Medford. Oregon Honey and Mead Festival: Taste honey and mead from Oregon and honeys from all over the world at the Oregon Honey Festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Edenvale Winery, 2310 Voorhies Road, Medford. The event, which celebrates pollinators and agriculture, features multiple speakers, live music, educational displays and activities, honey and mead tastings, children’s activities and more. Local Goods Market: Local crafters, makers and artisans will have their wares available for purchase at the Talent Local Goods Market, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, in the Wagner Plaza, 316 Main St., Talent. This market was started to help revitalize the downtown district of Talent after the 2020 Almeda Fire, allowing people to come together and rebuild the community. Low-cost Pet Vaccines: Make an appointment for your pet to get vaccinated and microchipped the third Saturday of each month. This drive-thru, appointment-only clinic is open to dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Vaccines available for dogs are rabies and the vaccine for distemper, distemper, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, and the parvovirus. The FVRCP vaccine available for cats is for panleukopenia (feline distemper), rhinotracheitis, and calicivirus. Reservations must be made by Friday before the scheduled clinic. All vaccinations are $20 each; microchips are $25 per pet. This is a cash-only clinic. All pets must be in good health. Pets that are on antibiotics, in heat or on cortisone products cannot be vaccinated. Search & Rescue Learn and Play: Jackson County Search and Rescue wants every person, especially children, to know how to survive alone in the wilderness should they ever become lost. The Lost But Found program was created specifically for this need and is being brought to a library branch near you at select times September through November. This presentation, designed for children but adults are also welcome, consists of a 12-minute video, demonstrations of easy survival techniques and simple gear, and a discussion/questions period led by a member of the Jackson County Search and Rescue team. Afterward, children will have a chance to practice their searching skills around the branch in a scavenger hunt for a survival safety item as a prize for each one. Victorian Medical Practices Tour: Step back in time to early Jacksonville and learn about doctors, medicine and health concerns in the late 1800s during a tour with costumed docents from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28-29, at the Beekman House, 470 E. Search & Rescue Learn and Play: Jackson County Search and Rescue wants every person, especially children, to know how to survive alone in the wilderness should they ever become lost.
