One man is dead and three people are seriously injured in the wake of a crash that prompted closures and delays on North Pacific Highway near Central Point for much of Sunday afternoon.
Brian R. Foreman, 76, of Central Point, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was ejected from the Ford Windstar minivan he was riding in as a passenger before the van collided with a Toyota Camry sedan at 11:40 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Highway 99 and Ellen Avenue, according to a release issued by Oregon State Police.
The van’s driver, 72-year-old Timothy J. Hunt of Medford, was turning onto the southbound lane from Ellen Avenue when the Camry, driven by 26-year-old Brian I. Paramo Zizumbo of Medford, struck the van, OSP said.
Hunt and another passenger in the van, Jeanette I. Cox, 85, of Medford, were seriously injured in the crash and rushed to a nearby hospital. The Toyota’s driver, Paramo Zizumbo, was also seriously injured in the crash and taken to a hospital.
The roadway was impacted by a crash investigation that called out OSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit, and the crash response drew resources from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Central Point police, Jackson County Fire District 3 and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
As of Monday afternoon, investigators were still working to determine a cause of the crash.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit or CRU describes itself as a specialized unit that investigates fatal and critical injury crashes on Oregon highways.
Personnel in the CRU have specialized training to use drone technology for on-scene investigations, and the division has specialized training and expertise documenting, analyzing and investigating complex vehicle crashes and crime scenes.
