Southern Oregon fell to 12-5-2 overall after going 9-2-2 in CCC regular-season play with Sunday's 2-1 overtime loss to Oregon Tech in the Cascade Conference Championships match in Medford.

A stinger of a quarterfinal loss to Oregon Tech in the Cascade Conference Championships left the Southern Oregon men’s soccer team’s season in peril Sunday.

SOU, seeded No. 2 in the tournament, will have to hope for an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament after going down 2-1 in overtime against the No. 7-seeded Owls. Wolfgang Alvarado scored the golden goal in the 96th minute at Lithia & Driveway Fields in Medford. Cannon Spooner served him a ball from the left side to the center of the box, where he skipped a shot on his first touch past diving keeper Casey Ruvolo.

The Raiders fell to 12-5-2 after going 9-2-2 in CCC regular-season play. Though they finished second on the table and were in the Top 25 until last week, their at-large candidacy will be hindered by their recent 2-3-1 stretch. Qualifiers will be announced on Saturday.

OIT, which also battled the Raiders to a scoreless draw two weeks ago, improved to 9-7-3 and moved on to a date with top-seeded Carroll (Mont.) in Tuesday’s semifinals.

The Owls struck first in the seventh minute after Ruvolo stopped Arthur Proost’s shot but it came to Kevin Rodriguez for a clean look at the net.

The Raiders got an equalizer in the 61st minute from Evan Norconk, who took a pass into the box from Sky Charley-Bolyard and slotted it into the right corner. The goal was his fourth of the season and the 23rd of his career.

SOU had chances all night, posting 19 shots to OIT’s 10, but was unable to take advantage of another. The Raiders also had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Owls keeper Ryan Solis made five saves. His team got revenge for a semifinal loss to SOU last season. OIT hadn’t defeated the Raiders since 2019, a span of seven games.

EASTERN OREGON 1, SOU 0: Southern Oregon’s opportunities were limited on Sunday afternoon in a season-ending loss to Eastern Oregon at Lithia & Driveway Fields in Medford.

In the quarterfinal round of the Cascade Conference Championships, the No. 3-seeded Mountaineers got through by depositing the lone goal in the 54th minute. Brooke Snyder lined up a free kick outside of the box from the left side and found Chloe Flynn on the set piece for a header that slotted inside the right post.

The No. 3-seeded Raiders couldn’t generate an answer, getting off just two shots and none on goal in the matchup. They finished with an 8-7-2 record.

Flynn’s goal was her first of the season. It sent the Mountaineers (10-4-3) to a semifinal matchup against No. 2 seed Oregon Tech at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Three of the higher seeds got through. The exception was No. 4 Carroll (Mont.), which lost in double-overtime against No. 5 Rocky Mountain (Mont.).

Ashlynn Hernandez — who on Saturday was voted onto the All-CCC team for the second year in a row — kept the Raiders within striking distance by making six saves.

IDAHO STATE 87, SOU 63: At Pocatello, Idaho, Southern Oregon finished a long road trip Monday at Idaho State, dropping an exhibition game at Reed Gym.

SOU guard Gabe Reichle scored 17 points and hit all three of his 3-point attempts in the contest, which was a counter for the Bengals. Khalil Chatman had 15 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Idaho State, an NCAA Division I member of the Big Sky Conference, went ahead 43-18 by the five-minute mark of the first half, but a 19-4 Raiders surge had that lead down to 10 a couple minutes into the second.

Five Bengals scored in double figures. College of Idaho transfer Jake O’Neil led the way with 17 points.

MIKE CLOCK OPEN: At Forest Grove, Simon Graeber and Adrian Chavez-Morales won tournament titles and Southern Oregon produced four additional top-three placers at Pacific’s Mike Clock Open on Sunday.

Graeber, the NAIA’s No. 10-ranked individual at 133 pounds, didn’t surrender a point all day. He pinned his first four opponents consecutively before defeating Cade McCallister of Clackamas C.C. by 15-0 technical fall in the final.

Chavez-Morales earned three bonus-point victories during his perfect day in the 184-pound bracket. He opened with back-to-back major decisions, won by fall in the semifinals and took a 4-2 decision from teammate Carlos Garcia in the final.

Garcia and 157-pounder Dylan Straley, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA, were SOU’s runners-up. Straley had two pins during his 4-1 outing. Kyle Sieminski (125) and Tyler Rhue (141) placed third.

Zach Keinonen (133), Noah Talavera (174) and Ethan Miller (184) turned in fourth-place finishes for the Raiders.
