- The 2023 Providence Festival of Trees will open the doors to a winter wonderland from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2-3, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway, Medford. The festival also features live entertainment by local performers and musicians. Admission tickets, sold at the door, are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors (65+) and children 3-12. Kids 2 and younger will be admitted free. Proceeds benefit patient services at Providence Medford Medical Center. Letters to Santa: Children can deliver their letters to Santa and receive a letter back from the jolly man himself. Children can drop their letters off at the Special Delivery North Pole mailbox at the Santo Community Center, 701 N. Columbus Ave., Medford, at Rogue X, 901 Rossanley Drive, Medford, or mail them to 701 N. Columbus Ave., Medford no later than Sunday, Dec. 15. Talent Turkey Trot: The Talent Turkey Trot, hosted by the nonprofit Southern Oregon Runners, is set for Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28, at the Cummins building parking lot — otherwise known as the old Talent Walmart — located at 300 W. Valley View Road, Talent. The Kids Dash is set for 7:45 a.m.; the 8-mile run starts at 8:15 a.m.; 5k race begins at 8:30 a.m.; and the 2-mile fun run will start at 8:40 a.m. Registration fees are $15-$20; youth ages 18 and under can participate for free. Holiday Model Train Display: The Medford Garden Railroad Club will showcase a dozen model trains in a variety of holiday scenes and layouts in the storefront formerly occupied by the Eddie Bauer clothing store, on the second floor of the Rogue Valley Mall, 1600 N. Riverside Ave., Medford, during regular mall hours Nov. 29-Dec. 31. See garden-scale trains decked out in lights and decorations and smaller-scale layouts created by club members. Harvest Show of Fine Woodworking: The Siskiyou Woodcraft Guild will hold its 45th annual show Friday through Sunday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, at the Hay-Patton Rehearsal Center, on the corner of Enders Alley across from the Ashland Springs Hotel, 30 S. First St., Ashland. The juried show features selected works by members exhibiting a variety of furniture, tables, boxes, carvings, turned bowls and more. Ashland Festival of Light: The 32nd annual Ashland Festival of Light begins every year the day after Thanksgiving, which this year is Friday, Nov. 29, to start the holiday season. Santa’s Parade will kick off the event at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by entertainment on the Plaza and the Grand Illumination, with a countdown led by Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will flick the switch on more than a million lights all over downtown. Wreath-making at Hanley Farm: Learn to make your own holiday wreath from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at Hanley Farm, 1053 Hanley Road, Central Point. Wreath-making kits will be available for $20. Kits include either grapevine or fruitwood bases made from vines at Hanley Farm plus evergreens, berries and special trimmings such as dried hydrangeas, pine cones and ribbon. Wires and clippers will be available. Volunteers will be on-site to give wreath-making advice. There will also be hot drinks and small cone centerpieces available for sale, as well as raffles. Beekman House Christmas Tour: See how Christmas was celebrated in the late 1800s and learn about holiday tradition origins during guided tours from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, and then every Saturday and Sunday Dec. 7-29, at the historic Beekman House, 470 E. California St., Jacksonville. One-hour tours will begin every 20 minutes. Learn the Victorian origins of popular Christmas traditions and about typical Victorian presents the Beekmans exchanged, find the good luck German pickle on the Christmas tree, hear how Clement Moore and Charles Dickens reinvented the holiday, and sample one of Mrs. Beekman’s sugar cookies. Also look for “Mrs. Beekman’s Christmas Bazaar,” which has antiques, collectibles, old-fashioned toys, handcrafts, holiday items and more available for purchase. Admission to the “bazaar” is free. Jacksonville Victorian Christmas: The annual holiday tradition of a “Victorian Christmas,” begins with Jacksonville’s community Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the New City Hall, 206 N. 5th St. Festivities continue with a Victorian Christmas parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, along California Street. Talent Holiday Tree Lighting: The city of Talent will hold a community Christmas tree lighting celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Talent Old Town Hall, 206 E. Main St., Talent. Santa will arrive and lead community caroling, followed by holiday greetings from leading community members, then Santa will flick the switch and light up the tree. Scout Troops’ Christmas Tree Sale: Ashland Scout Troops 112 and 8112 will hold their 66th annual Christmas Tree Sale from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in the Elks Lodge parking lot at Lithia Way and First streets in downtown Ashland. This year, the troops will have farmed trees in the 6- to 8-foot range, as well as local mountain-cut noble firs up to 12 feet tall. Mistletoe, decorated holiday wreaths, hot chocolate and coffee will also be available for purchase. Scouts will be on hand to help select the best tree, carry it to your car and tie it on top, if needed. The troops’ and the Ashland Lions Club’s Christmas Tree Recycling is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11, and it is recommended that trees are curbside the night of Friday, Jan. 10. The recycled trees are chipped and used throughout parks in Ashland. Sale of these trees helps to support the troops’ activities throughout the year. Magical Christmas Murals: Downtown Grants Pass will sparkle with the fiber-optic dazzle of 20 musical Christmas murals and giant nutcrackers through New Year’s Day. The murals weigh 400 pounds each and include sound systems that play old-fashioned Christmas music. The murals, created by local artisans, are 12 inches thick, 10 feet tall, 5 feet wide and are wired with miles of fiber-optic cable and thousands of points of lights. Rogue Winterfest: Josephine County’s largest holiday festival, Rogue Winterfest, will be held at Evergreen Federal Bank’s Bear Hotel, 2101 Spalding Ave., Grants Pass. Each year, the venue undergoes a spectacular transformation into a winter wonderland, bringing the community together to help support the area’s mental health organizations — Family Solutions, Kairos and Options for Southern Oregon. Jefferson Baroque Orchestra: The Jefferson Baroque Orchestra and Choir will perform a concert of music by George Frideric Handel, featuring Part 1 of the “Messiah,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church,140 N. Soroptimist Holiday Home Tour: Soroptimist International of Medford will hold its 31st annual Holiday Home Tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. The tour features four homes plus three bonus locations all decked out for the holidays. The bridge will be dressed in greenery, lights and decked out with a dozen decorated trees. Holiday Open House at Hanley Farm: Take a step back in time as costumed docents guide you through Southern Oregon Historical Society’s historic Hanley Farm home and bring history to life with holiday tales and stories about the Hanley family and farm life during this annual event. The 1857 Hanley Farmhouse will be decked out for the holidays with rooms depicting the holiday trends of the 1860s, 1880s, 1920s, 1940s and 1960s. Visitors can expect to see over 150 years of Christmas decor, toys and fashions from the Hanley Collection. Tours begin every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at 1053 Hanley Road, Central Point. Tickets are $10, $5 for children 12 and younger. Community Labyrinth Walk: Ashland’s free 26th Community Labyrinth Walk to the New Year will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, and resume from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday Jan. 1, in Wesley Hall at Ashland First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland. Six altars will be dedicated to the four directions as well as the divine feminine and the divine masculine. There will be two additional altars: one honoring childhood, and an interactive altar honoring community. Members of the public are invited to contribute small objects, pictures, and items from nature to adorn the community altar. All welcome; donations accepted. NYE Good Vibes: Celebrate the new year and dance the night away to tunes by DJ Samuel Lawrence, Free Creatures, True Loves, Balkan Bump, and special guests beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St., Ashland.
