Police: Eagle Point man arrested after altercation, stabbing

- Anthony Holzhauer, 65, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail Monday without bail on charges of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon-aggravated assault and harassment after an altercation and alleged stabbing.
An Eagle Point man was arrested Monday after an altercation that resulted in a stabbing, authorities said.

Eagle Point officers were dispatched to a report of a menacing with a knife and a physical altercation in the 300 block of Lorraine Avenue in Eagle Point around 5:38 p.m., according to a Tuesday press release from the department.
“Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist with the incident,” the release said. “As officers were responding, additional information was relayed by dispatch that the suspect was being detained by one of the residents and was reported to have brandished a knife.”
When officers arrived on scene, they learned there had been a physical altercation between the suspect, later identified as Anthony Holzhauer, 65, and the victim, Webster Jackson, 57, of Eagle Point. During the altercation, Holzhauer allegedly produced a knife and cut Jackson several times, according to the release.

Holzhauer was eventually pinned down by Jackson as neighbors began calling 911, police said. Arriving officers detained Holzhauer without further incident.
“Through the investigation, officers were able to determine the altercation was over a disagreement about money and Holzhauer initiated the fight,” the release said. “Holzhauer used his knife to assault Jackson, resulting in several non-life-threatening cuts to the head, face and body. Jackson was later transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.”
Holzhauer was transported and lodged in the Jackson County Jail without bail on charges of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and harassment, police said.
He was scheduled to be arraigned in Jackson County Circuit Court on Tuesday afternoon. Holzhauer has no prior arrests in Jackson County, according to court records.
The case will be referred for review and filing of charges to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, according to police.
“There were no other victims in this case and no additional threat to the public,” the release said. “Based on facts known about the incident, this was an isolated altercation between the two listed individuals. No additional information (is) available currently as the case is still under investigation.”
