Man charged in Ashland apartment shooting that injured mother

A man faces a string of felony charges and a woman remains in the hospital in the aftermath of a Monday evening shooting at an Ashland apartment complex.

Cory Aaron Davison, 49, faces charges including attempted second-degree murder on accusations he shot his mother inside an apartment unit located in the first block of Alida Street, according to a release from Ashland police and documents filed in Jackson County Circuit Court.
Residents in the apartment complex located at 45 Alida Street reported the first shot fired at 5:49 p.m. Monday. Callers told Emergency Communications Southern Oregon 911 dispatchers that a man was making homicidal statements.
When officers arrived on scene roughly five minutes later, police say Davison fired additional rounds before retreating inside the apartment.

Two more shots were reported inside the residence, according to the Ashland police release Tuesday. The victim called 911 to report she was with the suspect and she had been shot, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by police in the case.
As officers made their way to the apartment attempting to rescue the injured woman, police say Davison exited the unit making homicidal statements and screaming at officers to kill him, according to the police affidavit.
Davison was tased “multiple times” before being handcuffed and taken into custody, according to the affidavit
“Once the male was detained in handcuffs, he made spontaneous statements about hoping his mother dies,” the police affidavit states.
Other officers rushed into the apartment, found the victim suffering from two gunshot wounds and began lifesaving efforts on the woman. Ashland Fire & Rescue paramedics ultimately rushed her to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. As of Tuesday afternoon, she remained in the hospital in stable condition.
Davison made his initial court appearance Tuesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. At the hearing, Judge Jeremy Markiewicz ordered that Davison be held without bail.
As of late Tuesday afternoon, he remained held in the Jackson County Jail, records show. His next court appearance is currently scheduled for Dec. 17.
