UPDATE: Interstate 5 northbound lanes reopen after fatal crash; second crash reported on Phoenix overpass

The northbound lanes of Interstate 5 are closed at Exit 33 in Central Point due to a crash at milepost 34 that occurred just after 11 a.m.

Various social media users report a motorcyclist being pursued by law enforcement prior to crashing into another vehicle. Oregon State Police confirmed the crash involved a fatality.
Oregon Department of Transportation officials anticipate an extended closure and advise drivers that traffic is expected to back up on I-5 and that drivers should expect heavy congestion along alternate routes in Medford and Central Point.
Drivers exiting the freeway at Central Point are being diverted through town, down Highway 99 and back onto the freeway at Exit 35.

A second crash was reported on Tripcheck.com at Exit 24 on I-5 in Phoenix. ODOT officials reported earlier Friday that ramps were affected in both directions and traffic had been closed for eastbound motorists on the overpass. There have been no further updates, but TripCheck.com shows as of 3:45 p.m. shows traffic was flowing but with potential delays.
