Construction crews make progress on the new oncology treatment St. Charles Health System is building in Redmond.

Construction has gone vertical on St. Charles Health System’s $90 million cancer treatment center in Redmond, which is now on track to open in 2026.

A ceremonial groundbreaking took place back in June, and crews from Skanska Construction plan to work through the winter on the 53,000-square-foot facility located across Kingwood Avenue from the St. Charles Redmond hospital.

Once finished, the two-floor facility will increase services for cancer patients in Redmond, Prineville, Madras and Sisters, who currently have to travel to and from Bend for radiation treatment and other medical appointments. The hospital system estimates 40% of its current Bend cancer center patients drive from Redmond, Madras and Prineville.

When finished, the cancer center will include 36 exam rooms, 24 chemotherapy infusion chairs, a high-dose brachytherapy suite to deliver cancer treatment through internal radiation, radiation oncology, surgical oncology and support services. Exact employment numbers are unknown, as St. Charles expects many of its employees to work both in Bend and Redmond.
