Southern Oregonians wanting to visit sunny Southern California will have a new direct air route scheduled to begin in May.

Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport officials said Tuesday on Facebook that Alaska Airlines plans to launch the new service this spring. There will be mid-afternoon departures from the Medford airport and late-morning departures from San Diego.

Airport officials also said Alaska Airlines plans to boost service between Medford and Portland International Airport from two flights per day to four flights daily in mid-May.
