Cascade Christian senior Angelica Arce shoots a 3-pointer against St Mary's in Medford Friday.

Eighth-ranked Cascade Christian opened the game with a 16-0 run and didn’t look back to secure a fifth straight girls basketball win over St. Mary’s, 62-14, in a Southern Oregon Conference victory last Friday.

Senior forward Isabel McCauley scored 13 of her 21 points in the first quarter as Cascade Christian’s full-court pressure created turnovers and a pace that was a bit too frenetic for St. Mary’s to handle.

Angelica Arce also knocked down two of her three 3-pointers in the opening frame, scoring nine of her 12 points in the first quarter for the Challengers (11-4, 3-0 SOC).

McCauley finished with seven rebounds, four steals and four assists, while Arce grabbed five rebounds to go with five steals. Jordynn Jones added 10 points, four rebounds and two steals and Grace McCauley had six points, three assists and three steals.

Emma Wheelock’s 3-pointer from the top of the key with 4:50 to go in the first quarter broke the opening drought for St. Mary’s (5-8, 0-3), but Cascade went on to build a 26-6 lead by the end of the frame.

Bailey Strickler, who was active in chasing down rebounds or 50-50 balls, hit a 3-pointer and Crystal Rangel Villa also connected from beyond the arc to give the Crusaders a quick 6-0 burst to start the second quarter, but the Challengers were able to respond and limit St. Mary’s to two points overall thereafter.
