North boys finish strong to upend GP

No strangers to games that come down to the fourth quarter, especially as of late, North Medford seized its opportunities Tuesday night to earn a 47-41 win at Grants Pass in Southwest Conference boys basketball action.
Nate Anderson scored on a putback to break a 35-all tie early in the fourth quarter and Easton Curtis drilled an elbow jumper for cushion, and Traeger Healy hit a pivotal 3-pointer with 3:20 to play to boost the Black Tornado.
Tate Snyder later drew a charge and went on to convert all four of his free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the win for North Medford, which has survived three straight fourth-quarter challenges and remains one game back of SWC-leading Sheldon in second place.
Curtis tallied 11 points, three rebounds and two assists and Snyder had 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and four assists for the Black Tornado (11-6, 4-1 SWC).
Nate Anderson, who also had a blocked shot to deny GP in the fourth quarter, collected nine points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists for North.
Jordan Rossetta scored 12 points and Peyton Bruner added 11 points for the Cavemen (5-12, 1-4).
SOUTH MEDFORD 67, ROSEBURG 51: At Roseburg, Jed Johnson led five South Medford players in double figures with 12 points to go with seven rebounds and two blocks in a balanced effort by the Panthers for the Southwest Conference win.
Isaac Tannaci and Quinton Ritchie each scored 11 points, and South Medford (8-10, 4-2 SWC) got 10 points apiece from Cole Adee and Jake VonStrahl to hold steady at third in conference and only 1 1/2 games back of Sheldon.
Ritchie also finished with seven assists and three rebounds, while Clevenger grabbed nine rebounds and Tannaci had five rebounds and three assists.
EAGLE POINT 61, ASHLAND 59: At Ashland, Eagle Point bounced back from a tough road loss to North Eugene last Friday with a clutch effort to improve to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in MWL play. Ashland (9-8, 2-3 MWL) fell into a three-way tie for fourth place in conference with Eagle Point and Crater with the narrow defeat.
PHOENIX 60, HIDDEN VALLEY 49: At Murphy, Phoenix rallied in the fourth quarter to erase a 44-43 deficit and earn a Skyline Conference road victory. Tobias Akpan led three Phoenix (11-6, 5-1 Skyline) players in double figures with 17 points, while Martin Ortega had 16 points and Lucas Wihtol contributed 14 points.
ST. MARY’S 72, ROGUE RIVER 37: At Rogue River, St. Mary’s outscored Rogue River 26-9 in the third quarter to take control of the Southern Oregon Conference game. C.J. Seggelink contributed 23 points and five rebounds and Jax North had 15 points and six steals for St. Mary’s (8-7, 2-1 SOC), while Nolan Hensman added 10 points and five assists.
Sophomore Easton Brown led Rogue River (1-15, 0-3) with 11 points off the bench.
