Rep. Bentz and spending cuts

The Rogue Valley Times recently ran a Bend Bulletin interview with our congressman, Cliff Bentz, the only Republican in the Oregon delegation. Unsurprisingly, he supports most everything the current president wants, including the dismantling of the federal government, regardless of the consequences.

Representative Bentz says he would have taken a different approach to downsizing the government. Yet, he still supports nearly everything the president is doing.

The congressman writes often about helping veterans. What is his response to the planned layoffs of thousands of Veterans Affairs workers? I’m guessing it would be a GOP talking point: You will hurt before you’re better. Thank you for your service.

When I was in Coast Guard boot camp decades ago, the drill sergeant would drill us on the names of pertinent politicians – the president, relevant members of the cabinet and Congress, etc. The names were always preceded by “The Honorable.” But there is no honor in what is happening today in our government or the people taking us there.
