The filing deadline is Thursday for ballot measures and elected positions for school boards and special service districts to be decided during the May 20 special election.
Available positions for a long lineup of local school boards and special districts that provide education, fire, sewer and library services had all garnered at least a few — if not more — willing candidates by Tuesday afternoon, according to the Jackson County Elections website.
Ballot measures, thus far, on the May ballot include a pair of fire districts seeking for added operating revenues.
Jackson County Fire District 4, which serves the communities of Shady Cove and Trail, will seek a five-year local operating levy. Voters will decide whether to impose an added $1.10 per $1,000 of assessed value for five years beginning in 2026-27.
Just down the road, the Prospect Rural Fire Protection District will also seek voter approval for a five-year assessment at $1.39 per $1,000 of assessed value beginning in 2026-27.
Fire officials for both districts say the levies will prevent service level reductions and help mitigate property insurance increases.

Voter pamphlets will be mailed to Jackson County residents April 21, with ballots sent to voters May 2.
