Rainie Falls Trail across river also closed; members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses are prohibited
The popular Rogue River Trail is closed because of a “signifiant landslide” after recent heavy rain in the region, the Bureau of Land Management said late Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Rainie Falls Trail, located on the south side of the Rogue River across from the Rogue River Trail, will be closed until further notice because of landslides and heavy erosion, BLM said.
BLM recreation staff accessed the Rogue River Trail on Thursday after floodwaters receded, and a significant landslide was found less than half a mile from the Grave Creek Boat Ramp in Josephine County, a news release said. The trail is blocked, creating hazardous conditions.
The closure order covers the BLM-managed portion of the trail from Grave Creek to Marial.
“There may be other storm related impacts that haven’t been assessed by BLM staff yet,” the BLM Medford District said. “The trail is on a steep hillside and the damage creates significant safety issues for the public.”
Members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses — including hiking, hunting and dispersed camping — are prohibited, the release said.
Map of the closure areas are available on the Bureau of Land Management’s website: https://www.blm.gov/programs/public-safety-and-fire/fire-and-aviation/regional-info/oregon-washington/fire-restrictions
Recent heavy rainfall caused significant flooding, landslides, fallen trees and damage to facilities across the Medford District, the release noted. People who find damage are asked to report it to the BLM Medford District Office at 541-618-2200.
