The overpass is along Highway 99 and goes over the Rogue River. The bridge receives heavy pedestrian traffic while providing access between the city of Gold Hill and a nearby mobile home park.
The inspection work is ahead of the transportation department’s 2026 project to improve the bridge from being 20 feet wide to 24 feet wide, along with upgrading the existing timber walkway for pedestrians that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the early summer of 2026 and the project is expected to cost approximately $16.4 million.
The primary goal of the project is to improve safety while preserving the historic structure and allow all kinds of vehicles from emergency services to freight to bicyclists to cross the roadway with extra space.
The bridge is well known in the region for its beauty and scenic views.
