Conditions were pretty optimal given the time of year Wednesday afternoon, and South Medford’s boys and girls tennis teams took full advantage as each secured a clean sweep in victories over North Medford.

In Southwest Conference matches played at North Medford High and South Medford High, respectively, the South Medford girls tennis team was able to score an 8-0 triumph and the Panther boys team won likewise with an 8-0 showing.

Some of the most competitive matches came at No. 1 doubles during each crosstown rivalry, with South Medford’s Jackson Rasmussen and Bennett Rasmussen needing a tiebreaker to resolve the match and the Panthers’ Camden Allen and Birkley Maddox pushed to the limit in the girls matchup.

The Rasmussen pairing rallied back from a first-set loss to win 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 over North Medford’s top doubles team of Remi Kueny and Archer Aduna.

At No. 1 doubles in the girls pairing, Allen and Maddox came through in key moments to win 6-3, 7-5 over the duo of Nayeli Castillo and Keira Miller.

The top two singles players from South Medford in boys and girls did not give up a game to each win in straight sets and help set the tone against the Black Tornado.
